WP Assist
How-tosGetting startedGenerating your API key

Generating your API key

Every WordPress site you connect to WP Assist gets its own unique API key. This key is what the WP Assist WordPress plugin uses to authenticate requests — no WordPress passwords are ever stored or shared. You can find your API key in the WP Assist dashboard at any time.

Where to find your API key

  1. Log in to your WP Assist dashboard at wpassist.app.
  2. Click on the WordPress site you want to connect (or add a new one if you haven't already).
  3. Your API key is displayed on the site's settings page. Click Copy to copy it to your clipboard.
  4. Paste the key into the Settings → WP Assist page in your WordPress admin.

Keep it private: Your API key gives full access to your WordPress site via WP Assist. Don't share it publicly or commit it to a code repository. If you think it's been compromised, you can regenerate it from the dashboard.

API keys are generated automatically

You don't need to do anything special to generate an API key — one is created automatically when you add a new WordPress site in your WP Assist dashboard. Each site has its own independent key, so managing multiple WordPress websites is straightforward.

If you need to regenerate your key

If you regenerate your API key, the old key immediately stops working. You'll need to paste the new key into Settings → WP Assist in your WordPress admin to restore the connection.
